Aluminium Building Kits for Aluminium Boats
Euralco Europe supplies aluminium building kits for shipbuilding, based on the designs and technical drawings of our customers. Based on the production drawings, we put together complete packages with precisely cut aluminium parts that can be used directly in the construction process of aluminium boats.
For our cutting packages we primarily utilise EN AW-5083 H111, an aluminium alloy used worldwide in shipbuilding and the maritime industry. This alloy combines high strength with excellent corrosion resistance in (sea)water and very good weldability. As a result, 5083 H111 is particularly suitable for the construction of aluminium hulls, deck parts, and other structural components of boats.
Thanks to these material properties, aluminium building kits made from 5083 H111 are ideal for the construction of aluminium boats, aluminium tenders, workboats, and other lightweight aluminium vessels. Furthermore, aluminium boats offer significant advantages such as low weight, a long service life, and minimal maintenance requirements.
The process starts with the customer's drawings or 3D-models. Based on this, the parts are nested and cut to optimise material usage and production efficiency. Subsequently, the parts are arranged and delivered as a complete package.
Markings: essential part of every building kit
Before the aluminium sheets are processed, the parts are first marked on one or both sides. Marking is an essential part of the shipbuilding process and, consequently, of every cutting package supplied by Euralco. The sheets are marked using laser engraving or ink. Laser engraving applies a permanent, precise marking that withstands the harsh conditions of a shipyard: moisture, salt, mechanical stress, and surface treatments do not affect the marking. Ink marking is faster to apply and suitable for applications where the marking needs to be temporary or will later be covered by a weld or coating.
Each component adopts the unique identification code from the drawing, creating a direct reference between the nesting and the drawing. This ensures that every part can be uniquely located within the kit, allowing the constructor to determine at a glance which part they are holding, where it belongs in the boat, and how it should be positioned. This prevents mix-ups and significantly speeds up the construction process.
With double-sided marking, the parts are provided with the same identification on both sides. Many customers appreciate this because the designer regularly turns the sheet over and thus has the correct information immediately at hand on the underside as well. Furthermore, 3D rolling and bending lines are applied to the parts. Bending lines mark exactly at which position a part must be bent or folded and at what angle, so that there is no room for interpretation or measurement errors on the shop floor.
Marking also supports material traceability. In yacht and shipbuilding, classification requirements (EN 10204 - 3.1 and LRS 3.2) require the ability to demonstrate the origin of the material. Through marking, the link between the physical component and the manufacturer's certificate remains secured throughout the entire construction process, even after the sheet has been cut and the components distributed throughout the workshop.
The result is a building kit in which every component is delivered complete and ready for assembly: cut to size, marked on one or both sides, and provided with all the information the structural engineer needs to get started immediately.
Efficient nesting for optimal material yield
At Euralco , efficient use of materials is central. By means of advanced nesting software , we ensure that every part is cut out of the aluminium sheet material as smartly as possible. This results in minimal cutting loss, maximum efficiency and a sustainable production process.
As shown in the image below, the nested 5083 H111 sheet parts for shipbuilding demonstrate how carefully Euralco optimises material extraction. Each component is positioned to fully utilise the available surface area, without compromising tolerances or cutting quality.
Our nesting processes offer our customers:
- Better efficiency – more parts per sheet, less scrap material.
- Lower costs – less waste and shorter cutting times.
- Full traceability – every part is marked and identified.
- Transparency – if desired, you will receive a full nesting report.
Euralco is happy to collaborate on the design and production process to determine, together with our customers, how the material can best be utilised. In this way, we not only realize cost savings but also contribute to a more efficient and sustainable aluminium supply chain.
Shipbuilding products
For shipbuilding, Euralco maintains a substantial stock of 5083 H111 sheets measuring 2000 x 6000 mm, available in various thicknesses (primarily 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, and 8 mm) with both EN10204 - 3.1 and LRS 3.2 factory certificates. If desired, longer lengths (up to 12m) are supplied with the same ease upon request. Euralco also holds a standard stock of 5/6.5 x 2000 x 6000 mm checker plates. In addition to the supply of individual plates, Euralco also offers complete laser-cut, plasma-cut, water-cut and milled cutting packages through our network, in any desired thickness and size, so that customers can immediately get started with their hull construction projects.
Advantages of Aluminium 5083 H111 in Shipbuilding
The aluminium alloy EN AW-5083 H111 is one of the most widely used materials in the maritime sector. The alloy is known for its excellent corrosion resistance in (sea)water and its good weldability, enabling strong and durable structures.
For aluminium boats, 5083 H111 offers important advantages:
-
- Excellent corrosion resistance in (salt) water
- Very good weldability
- High structural strength
- Relatively low weight
- Long service life with low maintenance
These properties make the alloy particularly suitable for hull constructions of aluminium boats, tenders and other aluminium vessels. Perfect for aluminium boat building.

From inspiration to 'HONOURABLE MENTION'
Euralco is more than a supplier of aluminium extrusions and sheet material. With the extensive knowledge that Euralco has gained since its inception, Euralco is the ideal partner for advice and product development. In this way, Euralco has specifically met the need of aviation to apply weight savings where possible. With this vision, Euralco has developed the 'Aluminium Cargo Hook' for which we have received an 'Honourable mention'.
Euralco has successfully transformed the steel 'Cargo Hook' into an ultra-light and equally strong aluminium variant.
